an essay on the obsequiousness of trees

IMG_20121222_151359

oh! the poor obsequious Timber
thou raw strength doth make me quiver

a winter’s coat, a winter’s hat, our platitudes
willingly offered to winters of northern latitudes
but the Tree, oh! the Tree
its foliage forgo’d
for what? but strata of snow

but for self made serenity
offer’t nil to thine enemy

oh! the poor obsequious Timber
such gallant servitude to winter’s shiver

endurement of winter distress

the Tree, alone in the winter glade
to the cold, such a sacrifice made
what a daring hand is played!
woe! it sheds its leaves
woe! it sheds its seeds
naked! naked! but unafraid.

but, as the flux of time doth elapse
the trees bravery nary lapse
for the tree knows its recompense:
its spirit will soon will manifest
leaves!
seeds!
oh! oh! such glorious redress

the subterfuge of confession

In today’s post I tackle some questions about faith; faith in ourselves and faith in the presence of others. Sometimes it is hard to understand why we sin, especially in the presence of those trying to set a better example. It is my hope that this poem clears some of these questions.

antediluvian orthodoxy
venerable piety
t’word tutelary, a proxy
the criterion of sobriety

but to the reader i cede
the deific Topiary
It comes to exceed
all this capitulary

for the subterfuge of confession
extirpates not our transgressions
not when the tree commits no sin!
Unquestionable i’morality!
oh to be so abstemious
such an immutable probity!
Oh to be! Oh to be! The tree, it commits, no sin!

on this rocky plateau

Image065

to this rocky knoll
the Tree pays its toll
’tis an execrable place to grow:
a sparsly earthen address,
the ever encroaching water flow,
howbeit, tis not all anguish!

for, due to the rocky knoll,
the poor predestined Tree,
has thoughtfully bequeathed
phylogeny unto the it’s progeny!

on this rocky plateau

quid pro quo

the sharpest leaf blade

the sharpest leaf blade

acrimoniously displayed,
embitteredly sad,
a truth so harshly conveyed –

when beauty becomes dejected,
so horribly wretched,
feelings involuntarily betrayed

apple blossom

Apple Blossom
you are by a factor of three;
one of the most awesome;
of the most powerful trees;

The Apple Blossoms of spring
beautiful apple blooms
appear as if apple bosoms
I, for want, with one, a fling
I, for want, with one, a fling

leaves and branches and bark

leaves and branches and bark
chips and buildings and convenience stores
leaves and branches and bark
a landscape of convenient sores
leaves and branches and bark
a single spotlight cuts through the dark
